How to use the beat maker
- Press Play. Your browser starts audio only after you press the button.
- Pick a preset: Lagos Nights, Amapiano Roll, or Highlife Elegy. Each sets the tempo, swing, key, chords, and drum pattern.
- Click or tap squares in the grid to turn steps on or off while the loop plays. There are 16 steps per bar and five tracks.
- Change the key and chord progression. The sub bass follows the chord roots and the strings follow the chord tones.
- Use Export WAV to download a four-bar loop (one bar per chord).
Keyboard use
Tab to the step grid, then use the arrow keys to move between steps, Home and End to jump to the first and last step, and Space or Enter to toggle a step.
What is in each loop
- Kick, conga, and shaker make the rhythm section.
- Sub bass plays the root note of each chord.
- Strings are a synthesized pizzicato part and a sustained pad that follow the chord tones. They are generated in your browser, not recorded samples.
- Swing delays every second step to loosen the groove. Zero is straight, higher values lean toward a triplet feel.
Questions
Is the beat maker really free?
Yes. There is no account and no download.
Does it upload my beat?
No. The sounds are generated on your device and the WAV file is created in your browser.
Why is there no sound?
Check that your device is not muted and that the browser tab is not muted. Browsers only allow audio after a click or tap, so press Play first. If the page is open inside the Elementor editor, audio is paused until you view the live page.
What format is the export?
A 16-bit stereo WAV file at 44.1 kHz, four bars long, at the tempo and swing you have set.
